INDONESIAN LANGUAGE TEACHING ASSISTANT (ILTA) PROGRAM 2016

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and ACT Education and Training Directorate open the opportunity for Indonesian students who are currently enrolled as a Masters or PhD student at one of Canberra’s universities to participate in the Indonesian Language Teaching Assistants Program in Canberra public schools.

The successful applicants will be placed in Canberra public schools as Indonesia Language Teaching Assistants to support the teaching of Indonesian language and culture in Canberra. 

The aim of the ILTA program is to:

1.    Provide advice and assistance to principals and classroom teachers in respect of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.

2.    Provide advice and assistance to principals and classroom teachers in respect of culturally-specific and relevant materials for students.

3.    Provide support in the planning and development of teaching units and sample lessons for the teaching of Indonesian language.

4.    Assist in the development of Indonesian language teaching resources for years K-10.

5.    Provide support to the teacher of Indonesian.

6.    Work with the teacher to promote opportunities for students and teachers to enhance the Indonesian language program at the school.

Selection Criteria:

1.    Applicant will be required to submit an application form and current CV.

2.    Applicant must be interested in Indonesian Language and Culture.

3.    Applicant must be interested in education and working with students and teachers.

4.    Applicant must be an enrolled Master or PhD student in their first or second year of study (for Master) and /or first, second or third year of study (for PhD) at one of Canberra’s universities.

5.    Applicant must provide proof of current university enrolment status.

6.    Applicant must be available for work during Term 2 and Term 3 2016 (A total of 20 weeks-10 weeks per school term).

7.    Applicant must demonstrate strong English communication skills.

8.    Successful applicant must complete and obtain Working with Vulnerable People registration from the ACT Office of Regulatory Service before commencing placement in a school.

Note: The cost will be covered by The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia.

9.    Successful applicant will be required to work a maximum of 6 hours per week in a Canberra public school.

10. The ILTA will comply with the Directorate’s volunteers and visitor policy.

11. The ILTA will comply with the Code of Conduct for Volunteers and Visitors.

Selection Schedule:

Announcement and Applications open: 27 January 2016

Closing date for applications: 19 February 2016

Interviews: beginning the week of 29 February 2016

Finalise Selection: Mid March 2016

Orientation session for ILTA: Thursday 7 April 2016

Program Commencement:  beginning the week of 26 April 2016 (Week 1, Term 2 of ACT School term)

Note: 25 April 2016 is a public holiday
