Movie Screening: “Soekarno: Indonesia Merdeka” (The International Version)

The first Soekarno movie screening in Australia.

The Indonesian Student Association of ACT, ANU Indonesian Student Association and The Indonesian Student Association of UC proudly invite you to the screening of a full length feature movie of “Soekarno: Indonesia Merdeka” (the international version).

The event will be initiated with a brief remark on the background and framework of the movie from the movie director, Hanung Bramantyo and followed by after screening discussion with Hanung Bramantyo and ANU scholars of Indonesian politics.

Monday, August 18, 2014 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Coombs Theatre, ANU

The ticket can be purchased for $6 each and there will be free hot drinks and Indonesian snacks served during the event 🙂

On the spot tickets will be served if the remaining seats are still available.

 

On the next day, the event will be followed by discussion on Film Making with the topic: “Indonesian Cinema Post New Order” with Hanung Bramantyo

Venue (tentative): Coombs Extension Foyer, College of Asia and Pacific, ANU Date: 19th of August 2014 Time: 1pm-3pm The discussion is free.

 

ABOUT THE EVENT

The purpose of this event is to commemorate the Independence Day of Republic of Indonesia through the study of the life of Soekarno, the first President of Indonesia on the fight to his nation’s independence. Through this event, PPIA also utilises the Independence Day moment along with the transitional process of the Indonesia government from the current running president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to the new elected President of Indonesia to reflect the journey of Indonesia politics from the struggling era to the democracy era.

 

ABOUT HANUNG BRAMANTYO

Setiawan Hanung Bramantyo, known as Hanung Bramantyo is an Indonesian Director, born in Yogyakarta, 1st of October 1975. His films range from teen romances to religious dramas, and also cover a variety of genres and political ideologies. Several of his films and television programs are Topeng Kekasih (The lovers mask, 2000); Gelas Gelas Berdenting (Tinkling glass, 2001); Kidung (Song, 2003); Brownies (2004); Catatan Akhir Sekolah (Notes from the end of school, 2005), Jomblo (Single, 2006); Lentera Merah (Red lantern, 2006); Kamulah Satu-satunya (You are the one and only, 2007); Legenda Sundel Bolong (Legend of Sundel Bolong, 2007); Get Married (2007); Ayat-ayat Cinta (The verses of love, 2008); Do a yang Mengancam (Threatening prayer, 2008); Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (The girl with the keffiyeh around her neck, 2009); Get Married 2 (2009), Menebus Impian (Make dreams real, 2010); Sang Pencerah (The enlightener, 2010); ? (2011); Tendangan dari Langit (A kick from heaven, 2011); Pengejar Angin (The wind chaser, 2010); Perahu Kertas (Paper boat, 2012); Perahu Kertas 2 (Paper boat 2, 2012); Soekarno: Indonesia Merdeka (2013).

He has been awarded as the best film director from the Indonesia Film Festival twice, in 2005 and 2007 for his movies: Brownies and Get Married, respectively. Meanwhile, a short film of his directorial debut, Tlutur won the first prize at the Jakarta Arts Council’s Alternative Film Festival and Gelas-gelas Berdenting (Tinkling glass) won the third prize for television programming at the 11th Cairo International Film Festival.
